Lacey Horta (she/her)
Senior Manager, Peer Support
Canadian Cancer Society
Non-Fictional character
Summary: John Argast contested the removal of his cancer community account, IcarusFlyby.
Ms. Horta stated I had violated guidelines and denied account reinstatement.
Ms. Horta made assumptions about my intentions for signing up for the cancer community, rushed to judgment without attempting to contact me in any way, and closed my account. Ms. Horta did not allow me to correct the community guideline violations, escalated the issue, and self adjudicated her own decision.
(Apparently) Ms. Horta did not approve of links to my online personal autobiography (IcarusFlyby.ca). My artwork (artboxes.ca) or my response to a post by a community member that included a link to my personal cancer log (dapane.ca).
I simply would have removed the links if I had been given the opportunity to do so.
Let me be clear: In December 2025 my condition had deteriorated to the point that I was unable to control the left side of my body or dress myself. I had trouble with mobility. As clearly indicated in my introduction post, I required brain surgery to remove a tumor, radiation treatment in late January and experienced a grand mal seizure in February. My concern was surviving 2026, I was still in recovery from my experiences, no longer allowed to drive and totally dependent on my wife, my primary caregiver.
IMHO: Ms. Horta's actions were avoidable, judgemental, unacceptable, abusive and based on censorship.
I do not believe that Ms. Horta is in alignment with the stated intent or spirit of cancerconnection.ca.
IMHO: Ms. Horta requires supervision.
